Comment on Sara Mearns Promoted to Principal Dancer by Philip
Sara really had a fantastic season and she truly deserves the promotion. On top of everything else, she even came over to Central Park on the morning of a matinee performance day to give the NYCB AIDS Walk team a send-off.
Comment on Double Feature: Point Blank/The Limey by Craig Kennedy
I once planned a Point Blank, Get Carter, The Limey triple revenge review, but I only ever got as far as Point Black plus a rough draft of Get Carter so it gladdens my heart to see you review PB and Limey together here. Some people have criticized the temporal stylistics of The Limey, but I think they get at a necessary component of Stamp's psychology. He's a man whose relationship with his daughter exist in unconnected blocks that occurred during his stints out of prison. His "life" has been one of fragments and the chronology of them is almost irrelevant. Also, I'm resisting the urge to talk about my favorite line in the film because I do it all the time and I'm pretty sure I've even done it on these very pages.

That was cool! I mean not that you were knee deep in flies, but I always enjoy the creative side of you. More please.

I finally saw A Fistful of Dynamite about a year ago in a theater. It has been shorter and I think it's better longer. It doesn't immediately satisfy like GBU, like you say there aren't the same iconic moments, but there's something about this one I really love. I especially like the opening introduction of Rod Steiger where you start out thinking he's one thing and he turns out to be another.;
Comment on Watching movies with my dad, pt. 2 by Craig Kennedy
Yep. I dig The Big Sleep. Forget about plot, this baby has character to burn. I was a little late in coming to the Bogie bandwagon. I liked Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant first, but Bogie grew on me as I matured a little bit and I could better appreciate his subtle charms.
Comment on Watching Movies with My Dad pt. 3 by Craig Kennedy
You know, I'd never thought about watching comedies alone before, but you're largely right. For me it doesn't apply with the Coens. I'll laugh out loud to myself just thinking about some of their movies. But then I'm a little weird that way.
Comment on Watching Movies with my dad pt. 4 by Craig Kennedy
Ahhhh...the existentialist car chase movie. Not an easy watch, but not without its charms if your mind is open to them, as Kaj attests. Still, I have to admit I was a little disappointed the first time I saw it. I was expecting something less cerebrial and more action packed. Sometimes expectations are a bitch. Like it or not, you have to admit Barry Newman is f'ing cool. (He was great in The Limey)
Comment on Sunday Reading #5 - A Mixed bag by Craig Kennedy
A belated thanks for the plug, Hedwig. I've realized film festivals don't make for the best blogging, but damnit I had a full on blast. I only wish that LAFF was half as cool as Rotterdam. Oh well, one day when I own the internet, I'll just travel from one festival to another writing about them.

Sign me up for the club of people who weren't bothered by the dialogue in Death Proof, but I'm also with Kaj on the charms of VP. Dontcha hate how I'm always staking out the middle ground?

Something to do about seeing the ocean, Craig? :)

I really like Vanishing Point a great deal, though I admit that if you're looking for a subtly deep screenplay you best look elsewhere. I think it makes a lot of fine points that are a little subtle, though, as well. I last saw it about fifteen months ago or so after seeing Death Proof a few days earlier, so my memory of it isn't so strong right now but I think it has a lot of charms. It's kind of like earnest cave drawings next to the postmodern tapestry of Death Proof, but to me without the former you really couldn't have the latter.

Review for “WALL-E”
entertainment | movies | review | reviews | wall eStraight off the bat, this particular reviewer did not think that Ratatouille was the be all and end all of modern animation, in the way that every cinema reviewer in the world seemed to think. Yes, it looked amazing, in terms of technology Pixar certainly continued to push the envelope, but the childish joyfulness that [...]
